Golf Tour of the Week: Benidorm – Spain
When the Melia Villaitana golf resort opened its doors to golfers in 2007 it included the largest theme park in Spain and, more importantly for people seeking to find top class golf in Benidorm, two courses designed by Gary Nicklaus of Nicklaus Design. This is the company founded by golfing great Jack Nicklaus and it has a portfolio spanning nearly 400 courses that are open or under construction.
The golf courses at Melia Villaitana are some of the best places to play golf in Benidorm; with a Championship course and an executive course to choose from and a luxurious resort offering everything you need from a holiday in the sun.
The Levante and Poniente golf courses
The golf courses, Levante and Poniente, are two jewels. Levante is the Championship golf course. The par 72 is 6,612 metres in length and is distinctly American in design. Golfers at the Levante course will enjoy golf in an area with stunning views and very little in the way of buildings. The Mediterranean Sea provides a stunning backdrop for the course, whose narrow fairways are a challenge for casual and more serious golfers.
Poniente is a shorter course measuring a little under 4,000 metres. An executive course, it is a par 62 and offer views over the Mediterranean from its hill side location. The course demands use of irons and is a technical challenge for golfers of all levels.
Golf in Benidorm
Why do we love these courses? If you’re looking at a golf holiday in Benidorm you have a good chance of arriving in fine weather due to a quirk of geography. You may only know Benidorm as a beach and party hot spot but one of the reasons it is such a popular holiday destination is because of its micro-climate.
Benidorm is surrounded by mountains, which not only make it a spectacular location to play golf but also means it enjoys 3,400 hours of sunshine a year and post an incredible annual temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.
Beautiful scenery, fantastic weather and top-class golf courses make Benidorm our Golf Tour of the Week – and we have special offers to help you get booked.
