Royal Birkdale is possibly the most renowned golf course in all of England having hosted more Championship and International tournaments since world war 2 than any other course in the world. The feather in the cap arguably being host to the British Open Championship no less than ten times. Royal Birkdale has also hosted 2 Ryder Cups, Senior Opens, Womens British Opens, Amateur Championships, Walker Cups and Curtis Cups. The course has hosted all of the biggest names in golf but still manages to be accessible and fun to play for the average golfer, though careless shots in to the rough can be punished. An 18 hole, par 70 links course that opened in 1889 and was designed by Frederick Hawtree and J.H. Taylor that can measure 7,156 yards from the white tee’s.
Royal Liverpool golf course is the second oldest seaside course in England having opened for play in 1869 after being founded on what was originally a race course for the Liverpool Hunt Club. A design by Robert Chambers and George Morris that won Royal status when the course was extended to 18 holes in 1871. Harry Colt redesigned the course in the early part of the 20th century and Donald Steel has recently made improvements to bring the course to modern championship standards. Royal Liverpool has hosted the British Open Championship more than any other course in the UK after Royal St Georges, having hosted the competition 12 times. The course has also hosted the Amateur Championships including the inaugural event, Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, Womens British Open and Ladies Amateur Championships. A relatively flat course that lies extremely close to the sea where strong breeze’s can require impeccable club selection. An 18 hole, par 72 links course that can measure 7,254 yards from the white tee’s.
Royal Lytham & St Anne’s is another historic golf course on Englands Golf Coast that was founded in 1886 and designed by George Lowe then renovated by Harry Colt in 1919. The course has hosted The Open 11 times, 2 Ryder Cups, Seniors Open Championships, Womens Open Championships and the Walker Cup. Known to be a challenging course that can test all aspects of a golfers game with 174 bunkers throughout the course waiting to catch any stray shots. The fairways are relatively wide, though the rough can be demanding. The speed and quality of the greens has always helped the courses reputation for being in immaculate condition. An 18 hole, par 70 links course that measures 7,118 yards when played from the Championship tees.
